Recycling English: Present Simple

Present Simple is one of the tenses in the English language. We use it to express habits, routines, facts, repeated actions and feelings. For example: I don't smoke (habit). I work in London (routine). London is an amazing city . (fact) to give instructions: Walk for two blocks and then turn left. to talk about schedules (in present and future): The train to Glasgow leaves at 10:30 . Her plane arrives tomorrow at 8:00 . To use Present Simple, you need to remember some rules. In negative and questions, you will need the auxiliaries DO (I/You/They/We) or DOES (He/She/It). In affirmative sentences, the verbs for pronouns He/She/It will have an extra -s or -es at the end. For example: he wants , she needs , she thinks , he gives . You add -s to most of the verbs but there are always exceptions to the rule. Pay attention verbs ending in vowel -o (go) need -es at the end: goes verbs ending in consonant + -y (study) change -y for -i and add -es: studies verbs ending in vowel

Recycling English: Verb 'to be'

The verb 'to be' is the first one we learn when we study English. It's very important to express feelings and situations. The verb will have a different conjugation depending on the pronoun we need in the sentence: I am a student. You/We/They are family. He/She/It is cold. We use it: to say that something exists: There is a problem. to say that something happens: The party is tonight. to talk about location (a place): The food is on the table. to talk about jobs or identity: He is a singer. His name is John. to describe things or people: She is beautiful . This verb is the only one that doesn't need any auxiliary: Is your name John? Let's practise!
